Digital Line Tutorial by kinokochan Digital Line Tutorial by kinokochan
I spend a lot of time on my lineart.. so I thought if I'd make a tutorial the first step would be a digital line tutorial for bold, cel-style lineart. :D

For best line: use Adobe Photoshop and some form of graphics tablet.
Most of the screenshots are taken at 200% zoom and then shrunken down (so excuse the fuzziness). I find it easier to line zoomed in like that too. :nod:

Note: I don't consider myself an expert at this by any means. ^^; The most important thing is to use a method that works for you, and for that reason, please regard this tutorial as a small collection of tips rather than a step-by-step guide.

Fai is of course CLAMP :heart:

Nice tutorial/tip guide. ^_^ I hardly ever ink on the compy. [If I do, I cheat by using especially set levels and the brightness/contrast slider and an occasional 'load channel as selection' tool to change it to true black lineart ^^; Then I clean up what you call "fiddly bits".] I use a mouse to do all of my digital work. I can't stand tablets- seriously! I've tried using several, but..but...I can't adapt! *cries* *huggles infrared mousie*

hee hee.. I used to do that, but I had recurring nightmares from all those white spots. :faint:
I'm a little more disciplined now, so perhaps if I experiment I can make it work. :D

Most of the time I do use a tablet. :nod:
But I use my mouse quite a bit for erasing stray spots, fixing the little fiddly bits and/or moving things around. Mice are very handy sometimes. :D

ooh yes; there are lots of really good artists around who do that. I'm in awe of them. *__*
hee hee.. my pencil sketches can get really messy sometimes. And I have this bad habit of hatch-shading all over them and thickening the lines too much. ^^;

Sure are, especially in flash when you're bending lines and stuff! I thought you would do you lineart by doing the pic in pencil then inking it then putting it in photoshop, then brightening , then contrasting, and then finally colouring. I can see why you chose this way, that was alot of stuff I just wrote.
