At first, I pulled back because I was focusing on finishing my last two years of university. I had a lot of art classes and a part-time job. You know how it is.
After that, I spent two years working as an independent contract artist for indie, mobile and web games. I had to spend a lot of time networking so that I would have more work lined up.
As of August 2011, I've been working full-time as a User Interface Artist in mobile games. (For those of you who might be interested in a career in games - it's a very difficult industry to break into, and the work is always challenging. This is what I love about it.
I've also been learning many different kinds of art, and my illustration skills have suffered a bit from lack of practice.
I have never stopped making art though. My boyfriend, whom I live with, is a games programmer, and we are constantly working on projects together. These projects are a lot of fun! I've made concept art, pixel art, 3D models with all of their trimmings, 2D textures, UI, effects... tons of things! But ultimately, I'm not comfortable posting this work on deviantART, for the same reason I became uncomfortable posting my academic and professional work here years ago. It just doesn't feel like the right forum for it.
I will pimp the hell out of these projects given half the chance, though!
From here on out, I'm going to try to post any full-color illustration pieces that I deem appropriate for the community to deviantART again. Hopefully you will be hearing a lot more from me this year!
I am still pretty nervous about the quality of my art, too. I can do so much better! I want to push my skills as much as I can, and I know from experience that deviantART is a great community in which to do just that!
As always, a ton of my work can be found at alchemyprodigy.net (my portfolio) or my LiveJournal.
See you around!
